Step-by-Step Guide: Measuring Wrist-to-Floor Length
What You Need:
- A measuring tape (preferably a soft one used for tailoring).
- A friend to assist (optional but helpful).
- A flat, hard surface to stand on (avoid thick carpets).
Step 1: Stand Upright
- Stand naturally with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Keep your back straight and arms relaxed at your sides.
- Wear your normal golf shoes or stand barefoot for a consistent measurement.
Step 2: Position Your Arms Correctly
- Let your arms hang naturally, without tensing them.
- Do not stretch or bend your wrists unnaturally.
Step 3: Measure from Wrist Crease to the Floor
- Locate the crease at the base of your wrist (where your hand meets your forearm).
- Measure from this crease straight down to the floor.
- Ensure the measuring tape stays vertical without angling in or out.
- If measuring alone, hold the tape at your wrist and let it drop to the floor.
Step 4: Record the Measurement
- Note the measurement in inches or centimeters.
- If done multiple times, take the average of your results.
Step 5: Compare to Golf Club Fitting Charts
- Use a club fitting chart to determine your ideal shaft length.
- Many manufacturers provide guides based on height and wrist-to-floor measurement.
Final Tips:
- Measure on a hard, level surface.
- Wear your golf shoes or similar footwear.
- Relax your arms for an accurate measurement.
- Get someone to assist for better precision.
